Our
Story

Red Feather stems from traditional Mayan folklore.
The story goes that at a young age, the Mayan warrior, Tecun Uman, was gifted a special bird; the resplendent Quetzal. Throughout his life, the Quetzal would protect and look after Tecun Uman. After many years, he would eventually come to position as a powerful leader. Unfortunately, strength and resilience were not enough to keep the Spanish from closing in.
As Pedro Alvarado, the Spanish conquistador, had reached the final stronghold in Xela, he also reached his final adversary.
Tecun Uman on the opposite end of the battlefield, fighting valiantly, going to blows until he fell to his demise.
Tecun Uman was shot in the chest, falling unto his back. All the while, his Quetzal, watching over him. With care and sadness, the Quetzal
flew down onto Tecun Uman's chest, painting its' chest red. Now donning Red Feathers, it reminds us of Tecun Uman's bravery and leadership.
